Print silver, gold and other metallic colours with the XC-540MT
The new XC-540MT printer/cutter uses CMYK, white and metallic silver ink. By combining these inks, you can produce a broad range of metallic colours like gold, bronze and pearlescent. This makes the XC-540MT ideal for the production of beautiful, eye-catching labels, decals, packaging prototypes, displays and more.
The XC-540MT combines printing and cutting. The machine prints a design and then automatically cuts it into the desired shape. This means that you don’t need to reload the print in a separate cutting plotter. The XC-540MT uses six colours (cyan, magenta, yellow, black, white and silver), but you can also choose for a configuration with a second white ink cartridges instead of metallic. This last combination allows you to print white with an even higher density.

Polypropylene as a basis for economical and ecological material
Polypropylene is often used as base material for inkjet media. It’s an ecologically-sound material that has a good price/quality ratio. Roland DG offers you three types of polypropylene media.
What is Polypropylene?
This thermoplastic polymer is traditionally used for a wide variety of applications, including food packaging, textiles and inkjet films.
Is Polypropylene ecologically sound?
The production and disposal of Polypropylene is not damaging to the environment. No harmful substances are generated during these processes and very little energy is consumed. The disposal of Polypropylene by burning generates water and CO2. Due to these facts, Polypropylene is allowed in every country.
Is Polypropylene economical?
Compared to other synthetic films with similar characteristics, Polypropylene is excellent value for money. Although Polypropylene is not as temperature resistant as Polyester and less flexible than PVC, it is still the perfect choice for most of the typical indoor and outdoor applications in the market.
Is Polypropylene a substitute for paper?
Polypropylene is a substitute for paper for various graphic applications. Polypropylene has a close structure and it doesn’t’ react to humidity changes or moderate changes in temperature. It is therefore less sensitive to curling and it has a better dimensional stability. The scratch resistance is better as well.
Polypropylene has also various advantages when used for laminated applications. To be precise, the films have a better cohesion and will not break like paper.
For which applications can Polypropylene be used?
Polypropylene can be used for different applications. Roland DG offers three different materials that cover a wide range of applications.
-
RMC-PPWF is a 170 micron white film. It is an excellent and economical substitute for photo paper or high quality PVC films when brilliant prints, high tear resistance, water resistance and dimensional stability are required.
-
RMC-PPSA is a self adhesive film. The special low-tack glue allows an easy and 100% bubble-free application and residue-free removal on board, plate or glass. It is very easy to handle and use. You can apply it without professional assistance.
-
RMC-PPPU is a 170 micron high grade polypropylene material. An opaque grey backing prevents see-through, which is ideal for roll and popup banners.

User reports: Wings for handicapped gives children an unforgettable experience
Wings for handicapped wants to improve the mobility of handicapped and seriously ill children. They take the children on the Hoppetosse for an unforgettable trip on the water. The name of the boat refers to the boat of Pippi Longstocking’s father. Pippi Longstocking is the most powerful girl in the world that fears nothing or nobody. She makes the impossible possible. And that is what Wings for handicapped wants to achieve.
Wings for handicapped, or short w4h, was founded in 2000 by Jörg Leonhardt. Leonhardt was paralysed at age 18 as a result of a car crash. He’s in a wheelchair, but that doesn’t discourage him to live an active life. He dives, flies and plays wheelchair basketball. Leonhardt has a mission: he wants to show handicapped and seriously ill children that they too can fulfil their dreams and open up new horizons.
w4h takes children on an exciting trip on a 8.6m long rubber speedboat. Leonhardt steers the boat himself. Leonhardt: “The human being is central to us, not his restriction. We give the children the opportunity to strengthen their self-awareness and have unforgettable experiences.”
w4h organizes all sorts of events for handicapped and ill children. The association also participates to tens of exhibitions in order to promote their work and to return the favour to its sympathizers. “The only financial resources we have come from gifts. Trade shows give us the opportunity to bring attention to the people and companies that support us. This way, we want to thank them for their financial or material help. Roland DG is one of the companies that support us. They gave us a GX-24 cutting plotter. We use this machine to make stickers for the boat, cars and T-shirts. My sisters make the designs and I operate the cutting plotter. That’s not hard at all”, says Leonhardt.
Already hundreds of children were taken on the Hoppetosse for a trip. Now that they’ve conquered the water, they want to explore the atmosphere as well. w4h takes children into an ultra light airplane. The possibilities to broaden horizons are endless…
